Your Rising Sign (also called your Ascendant) is the sign that was rising on the eastern horizon at the time of birth. However, this is not the ZODIAC constellation but the SIGN relative to the starting point on 21 March every year (vernal equinox) when the Sun is zero degrees Aries.

The Constellations of the Zodiac keep moving backward by one sign approx every 2200 years, which is called the precession of the equinox. Indian astrology uses the precession and they call the amount of deviation Ayanamsa. Unfortunately, their astrology calculations are totally off from the original Indian astrology especially for the Natal chart and the only way you can get accurate Indian chart is by using Ayanamsa as zero.
